Greetings to all our readers and special thanks to those who have the patience and will to thoroughly read our magazine.
I think it includes, especially in this issue, useful information for sugar field operators.
So here we are again, quite on time with our usual delay, with our online magazine no. 09.
The sugar field is now undoubtedly facing some difficulties. This is the reason why customers and suppliers must cooperate, in order to understand how we, as suppliers, shall act to place at our customers’ disposal new technologies, allowing them to optimize their resources.
“Sugar is life” read the slogan of a prestigious Italian sugar company in the past. This is certainly true, and we must fight for life: this is what Babbini did and will continue to do.
The proof of our commitment, despite the current situation, is represented by the strengthening of our position in the market, with a turnover in year 2015, higher than in the past, and an even higher portofolio of orders for year 2016.
Our workers and owners are proud of that. It stimulates the company’s Management to continue investing in research and development in order to improve the reliability and performances of our machines, as well as to guarantee a continue assistance to our customers.
Babbini furtherly developed thanks to the recruitment of new highly skilled technical staff. This allows us to extend our activity also to sectors different from the sugar field, with the manufacturing of innovative machineries improving the state of the art, always aiming at energy saving.
In this regard we are now checking the possibility to apply for new patents.
Moreover, we are now studying new machines for the deep pressing of some products.
In the next magazine issue we will talk about it more in detail.
Our participation in the Ecomondo exhibition in Rimini awoke much interest in the operators of the Green and Circular Economy, and this gave us the possibility to “start feeling” new potentially important markets for Babbini.
Your will find here attached our article about the advantages deriving from the elimination of fine pulp from the pulp cycle. This article has been published on several specialised magazines, and I believe that it can be very interesting for those who care about the sugar field.

Babbini at ecomondo exhibition
On November 3rd to 6th, 2015, Babbini successfully participated in the ECOMONDO exhibition in Rimini. This exhibition is a technological platform for Green and Circular Economy in the Euro-Mediterranean area, a showroom for the most advanced and sustainable technological solutions for the correct management and exploitation of all types of wastes; for management and exploitation of water, waste water and of polluted sites and marine sectors; for the efficiency in the use and processing of raw and secondary materials and for the use of renewable raw materials.
Babbini’s presence aroused much curiosity about pressing solutions in the ecology field, with the purpose to extract liquids from waste or scrap materials.
By reducing the volume of liquids content in a certain product, its solid part “concentrates”, thus bringing advantages from the point of view of logistics and costs for disposal, in full compliance with the Ecomondo philosophy.
Many visitors were also positively impressed by the possibility to complete mechanical dewatering through thermal dewatering by means of the new Babbini dryer.

Babbini marked the milestones of beet pulp pressing development thanks to its twin screw presses having biconical geometry, covered by several patents. Then Babbini applied its knowledge to the dewatering of several agri-food products, also as a result of the historical exclusive cooperation with Atlas-Industries A/S – Denmark, which lasted more than 13 years.
Babbini presses are now used also in the agri-food and biomass fields, and in any way for all those products from which you wish to extract and collect the liquid part, such as, for example, fish meal, alfalfa, slaughtering by-products, sorghum etc.
Such twin screw presses, together with special single screw presses, are used for rendering, waste treatment and alternative energies production.
Babbini places its know-how at its customers disposal and offers the possibility to test new products in order to check their pressability by means of pilot presses.

Babbini for years has been using its mechanical experience, deriving from the presses manufacturing, to produce strong and reliable machines to continuously mix and dry large quantities of products, mainly inert materials.
Flexibility in production allows to define, together with the customer, the best solutions in terms of sizing, choice of materials and engineering for the entire line.
Therefore each machine is a unique product, manufactured in close cooperation with the Customer.
The role and influence of fine pulp in sugar beet processing
Recycling of fine pulp, i.e. small pulp fragments, formed during pressing of exhausted cossettes impairs the correct operation and the performance of pulp presses. In general, the recycling negatively influences the economics of a sugar factory causing increasingly higher direct and indirect costs in the course of the campaign and additional operating costs.
In order to optimize the pulp pressing operation it is recommended to completely separate fine pulp from the press water and then to press it by means of dedicated presses, thus increasing the overall value of pressed pulp and making use of all advantages deriving from the elimination of fine pulp.
After analysing the influence of fine pulp recycling on presses performances and, in general, the problems such recycling generates, Babbini has developed and is now promoting small presses, especially designed for fine pulp pressing. Their low investment cost, together with the many advantages deriving from their use, widely justify their installation in sugar factories.

OOO “KRISTALL” has awarded to Babbini an important contract for sugar beet pulp presses type PB48FSP. Please see here below an article published in a local magazine.
“Kristall” sugar factory increases its capacity an italian company supplies pulp presses to “kristall” sugar factory
“Kristall” sugar factory in Kirsanovsky stipulated an agreement with the Italian company Babbini (Babbini S.p.A.) for the supply of 6 complete deep squeezing pulp presses.
Babbini is the world leader in the sugar field for the manufacturing of twin screw sugar beet pulp presses. This unique company in the world manufactures horizontal and vertical twin screw presses, having a capacity from 1000 to 6000 tons of beets/day.
The first press will be delivered since next March. The equipment will be installed in the operating “Kristall” sugar factory with the aim to increase the capacity of the press station and of the pulp drying department. The start-up is expected to take place at the beginning of the next sugar beet processing campaign.
Other five presses will be delivered to the sugar factory after its rebuilding. The supply of the new equipment is expected in September-November 2016. The presses will guarantee an additional processing capacity not lower than 20 thousand tons of sugar beets/day.
At the moment company “Novatsija”, who has been cooperating with GK “ASB” for a long time, is arranging the project documentation concerning the installation of pulp presses both in the operating factory and for the extension.
The new technical equipment in the pulp press station, i.e. the installation of Babbini deep squeezing presses type PB48FSP, allowing to obtain pressed pulp having a 26-31% dry substance content thus reducing fuel expenses for pulp drying and saccharose losses in production. Moreover, the high dry substance content in the pressed pulp allows to use modern high performance drying systems and to dry all pulp, processed by the factory – says the technologist of OOO “Kristall” reconstruction and construction department, Ms Galina Alekseevna Rjabova.
